Thesebooks will takes us through the end of the year. For those grades who finish up early we will continue with short stories and poetry. The students are loving all the stories! I hope each of you has a wonderful vacation and our families stay safe and healthful throughout the month! Remember to bring back your borrowed books! Happy Reading!
March Notes So much business going on in March! Sixth & Seventh Grades finished "The Giver." Most everyone liked the story. We had some extreme critical thinking conversations surrounding the book. A great book to read to get the mind thinking about life. Fifth grade finishes "Island of the Blue Dolphins" and fourth grade is listening to the audio book, "War Horse." We have been reading this book in the fourth grade here at Sacred Heart School for the past four ways. The movie does not compare to the book. The movie portrays the human attachment to the horse, while the book is from the horse's point of view; his attachment to his humans. The students really like the audio book. Third grade is reading "Stone Fox," an all time third grade favorite! Grades kindergarten through second, continue to read aloud, listen to stories and have fun in the library! All in all, the library is buzzing!
February Announcement We are getting there...Spring is around the corner...The days are getting longer...and we have been doing the spring cleaning in the library! Many of you know this already as older, worn books are going home with students. These books have been withdrawn from the library. Earlier in the year Mr. Beza received a generous donation from Tufts Library. All of these newer titles are now in the library! Unfortunately we have limited space therefor other titles left our shelves! So many of these titles with cards dating back to parents of our students! What fun we had finding alumnae in the old cards! As for our classes, all is going well! We are reading War Horse in the fourth grade, Martin Luther King in the third grade...all other grades stories are still going strong! Have a great February and school vacation! Think Spring!!!!!
January 2012 Happy New Year!I would like to wish all the families of Sacred Heart a healthful and Happy New Year! It's hard to believe its January already! With the hustle and bustle of Christmas and all its confusion, the little ones are misplacing their books. Please keep your eyes out when cleaning up from the holiday festivities. They are bound to turn up! We begin the year by celebrating Catholic Schools Week at the end of the month. Our focus this month will pay tribute to our freedoms, while recognizing the African American Leaders who brought such positive change to our country. The younger grades will be learning about Martin Luther and Corretta Scott King, as well as other wonderful people. Grade 4 finished Old Yeller the week before Christmas! A few tears but all enjoyed the story! Grade 3 also finished The Miraculous Journey of Edward Toulaine. This story was so exciting and had a truly happy ending for all! Other grades continue in their reading and should be tying up their books by the beginning of February! Please stop by the library to see what's going on during Catholic School's week! Have a wonderful month and stay warm! Brrrr
December NewsThe students are already dreaming of sugar plums!!! December is one of those months books get lost or forgotten more easily. Not to worry, stay joyous. If you forget your book, just bring it in the next week. If you lose your book, then donate a gently used book from home. An easy solution for the holiday absent minded. The most important thing about this month in library and always is kindness and consideration for others. I am so fortunate to see this regularly amidst our students. I wish you all a joyous and peaceful Christmas...May you all be blessed with good health, happy memories and family and friends throughout these holidays. Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas!
November NewsNovember is a great time to begin assessing the year heading to a close and all that we are thankful for. I am particularly thankful for the smiling faces and great energy that is flying through the library during the school week. The K-2 through Grade 2 students continue to enjoy story time. In Grade 2 each student is getting the opportunity to read a story of choice to their classmates. They are loving this opportunity.Grade 3 is enjoying "The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. Grade 4 continues with "Old Yeller". Grade 5 is reading "Island of the Blue Dolphins." Grade 6 and 7 are enjoying "The Giver." Most of these titles will take us to Christmas. The students are doing well with their comprehension pop quizzes. When they have shown a lack of understanding they are required to reread. This is working out well and eyes and ears are staying more focused! Grade 8 enjoys their study time and are using their time wisely. I hope all enjoy the happiness of Thanksgiving and being with their friends and families. Have a great month!
October NewsletterWe have all moved graciously into fall even with the summer weather. Please note: It was determined that War of the Worlds was too advanced for many readers and the theme was not of interest to many students. Sixth and Seventh Grade are reading, The GIver. Students are enjoying the novel tremendously. Also note, in sixth through eighth grade students are graded for their performance and behavior in class. To assess the student the librarian will be having pop quizzes on comprehension.
A reminder for younger students and new famiies: Borrowed books are due the following week during the student' s schedulled library time. K2 is on Tuesday, Grades 1 & 2 come to library on Wednesday.
